
NWS Alumni
Alumni return to NWS each year to share their experiences with seniors. Graduates report that thanks to their Northwest School education, they meet the college challenges of greater independence, critical thinking, effective writing, and relating to people from around the world with confidence and success.

Nick Jones (NWS '01) graduated from Haverford College in 2005 after studying in Cuba and Spain. An accomplished cellist, Nick is a Ph.D. candidate at New York University in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese.
"I can't say enough about the quality of NWS's college prep curriculum and education, or about how its academic program encourages the students' passions and talents. I also really loved the urban location."
Aaron Loux (NWS '05) is a dance major at The Julliard School in New York City.
"The Northwest School taught me to express myself clearly, to approach new information with a critical eye, and to examine multiple sides of every situation. At Northwest, what made us different from each other was celebrated and enriched the community."
Josh Miller (NWS '96) graduated from Macalester College in 2000. He won a Watson Fellowship to study indigenous music in Ireland and Australia, and a prestigious National Science Foundation Research Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in Geology and Paleontology at the University of Chicago. Josh is one of the first scientists to study the recently-discovered "Tiktaalik," the evolutionary transition between fish and land animals.
"NWS is passionate about teaching its students to think independently, communicate clearly, and be full participants in their community. The lessons I learned there have been with me ever since."
Jill Hutchings (NWS '90) graduated from Brandeis University in 1994 and received her master's degree from the UW's Jackson School of International Relations. She has been the Special Assistant to the Coordinator for Counter Terrorism at the State Department and to the U.S. Ambassador in Iraq.
"My interest in Central Asia began at The Northwest School when I traveled with the peace delegations to Tashkent in 1987 and 1989. I use the lessons I learned at the school about our global interconnections every day."
Marc Madenwald (NWS '88) graduated from Bard College in 1992 and is Group Manager of Worldwide Partner Program Operations at Adobe Systems, Inc.
"The Northwest School turned my life around. It led me into the arts and opened my mind to music. Northwest set the foundation for my life because it taught me to enjoy learning."
