Boys' Basketball Wins Emerald City League Championship

The Northwest School varsity boys' basketball squad are Emerald City League (ECL) Champions for the second consecutive year! The boys' team won a hard-fought game on Friday, Feb. 9, against Overlake, 61-54, for the title.

The win sets up the boys’ team as the No. 1 seed in the District 1/2 1A Tournament, at Mountlake Terrace High School, Feb. 13-17. Northwest finished the regular season with an 11-1 league record, and a 19-2 overall record. They are currently ranked No. 6 in the state in the 1A classification.

Northwest will play Lynden Christian High School on Feb. 16, at 8:00 pm, at the district tournament. The winner of that game automatically qualifies for the State playoffs.

The varsity girls' basketball team narrowly missed out on the postseason after losing a closely played ECL wild card playoff game to Overlake on Saturday, Feb. 10. The girls finished 12-8 overall, led by seniors Hanna A. (the new school record holder for all-time three-pointers made) and Lily P.

"Under the guidance of new varsity girls’ Head Coach Ed Baran the team transitioned this year to a faster pace offensively, fueled by aggressive defensive intensity," says Director of Athletics Britt Atack. "The growth of individual players over the course of the season was remarkable. We’ll miss our wonderful seniors but a returning core of underclass players points to more excitement next year."
