Northwest Student Launches Free Online Tutoring Service

When school districts around the state began to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic, rising senior Logan S. recognized an immediate need for younger students in the area: tutoring assistance. She recruited volunteer tutors and launched the free online tutoring service Students Helping Students Seattle on April 28.

With the tutoring service in full swing, Logan’s effort has landed her the attention of both KING 5 and The Seattle Times.

“I just think that personally, Gen Z is really trying to form a community so we can change the world for the better,” Logan told King 5 news.

Many Upper School students at Northwest School have joined up to help, offering their assistance to younger students in search of help for many subjects, ranging from Spanish to math.

Rising senior Marcel F. told The Seattle Times he felt he needed to help younger students after schools went online.

“This was a great way to give back to the community and help out,” said Marcel. “I feel like especially with this quarantine, I can always find time. Especially for an important thing like this.”
