Alan Braun. Assistant Head of School.
B.A. (History), Earlham College; M.Ed. (Teaching, Curriculum and Learning), Harvard University. In 1980, Alan began teaching Middle School, first in Delaware, at Wilmington Friends School, and then at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. Before moving to Seattle in 1991, Alan served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, where he taught English at Hassan II University. He was the Middle School Director at NWS from 1992 to 2002, when he became Assistant Head. His interests include raising his two children, playing soccer, cooking and traveling. At NWS since 1991.

Tuney Kannapell. Middle School Director.
B.S. (Environmental Resources), Eastern Kentucky University; M.Ed. (Science Education), University of Louisville. Tuney has over 20 years teaching experience at the Annie Wright School, The Frankfurt International School, and Louisville Collegiate School. Tuney also served as an Education Coordinator for the Blackacres Nature Preserve and as a Wildlife Biology Technician for the U.S. Forest Service. Her interests include rock and mountain climbing, playing soccer, traveling and food. At NWS since 1997.
Ben Lee. Upper School Director.
B.A. (English), Yale University; M.A. (East Asian Studies), Yale University; completed doctoral studies (all but dissertation), Education Leadership, Management and Policy, Seton Hall University. Prior to joining NWS, Ben worked on international educational and cultural exchange issues at Yale's Council on East Asian Studies and at the Yale-China Association, and served as English Department Chair at the Academy of the Sacred Heart in New Orleans, Louisiana, and at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, in Miami, Florida. Most recently, he was Educational Director at Soundview School in Lynnwood, Washington. He is an Assistant Examiner for the Inter-national Baccalaureate Organization, and has been a College Board exam reader for AP English Literature and the SAT Writing Test. In addition, Ben has studied abroad (in Scotland) and taught English overseas (in China and Japan). New to NWS in 2009.

Glen Sterr. Dean of Faculty. 12th grade Philosophy, Outdoor Education Program Coordinator.
B.A., Summa Cum Laude (History), Seattle University; M.A. (History), Cornell University; completed doctoral studies (all but dissertation) (Cultural/Intellectual History), Cornell University. Glen worked at The Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, and as a news reporter for The Seattle Times. He taught at Cornell University and Ripon College in Wisconsin before returning to Seattle and joining the NWS Humanities Department in 1982. He founded the school's Outdoor / Wilderness Education Program in 1984, served as Upper School Director from 1992-2009, and became Dean of Faculty in fall 2009. Glen is an avid outdoorsman, backpacker, touring cyclist, paddler (kayak and canoe), sailor, skier, and mountaineer, with first ascents in the Cascades and Olympic Mountains. Joined NWS in 1982.
