The daily presence of 70 students from several countries creates a global perspective for our whole community, and makes our population unique among Seattle-area schools.

International students begin by taking most of their academic classes in the International Program, and join their American peers in more domestic classes each year. They provide a unique dimension to the classroom; imagine learning about World War II sitting beside a student from Korea or Japan.

In addition to preparing students for success in American colleges and universities, The Northwest School International Program benefits our entire community. It includes a consortium of sister schools in Japan, France, Spain, and China, through which our students can exchange visits. Kamimura Gakuen, our sister school in Japan, sends a class to spend a month with NWS families each spring. Students from Taiwan and China tutor American students who are studying Mandarin Chinese. Our families have opportunities to share holidays and school breaks with students from other cultures, and we welcome International parents into our homes each year.

"Jin Mook is in the Air Force now in Seoul. He is the only one who passed the exam for translator. He says that whenever he runs into a difficult situation, he remembers life at The Northwest School and he encourages himself. We know where that power came from."
