Summer Camp Director

The Northwest School is a college-preparatory, co-educational independent school near the heart of downtown Seattle. We offer a rich and challenging program to 470 students in grades 6 through 12, including 80 international students. The School seeks an experienced and entrepreneurial Summer Camp Director to lead all facets of The Northwest School’s Summer Camp, including student recruitment, marketing, budgeting, staff hiring and supervision, and program development and assessment. This position is a full-time, 12-month position and reports to the Assistant Head of School.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing the curriculum for the summer camp, including overall program design and class offerings
  • Overseeing all aspects of marketing the summer camp, both locally and internationally
  • Developing staffing plans that meet the needs of the program
  • Recruiting and hiring summer camp teachers and support faculty
  • Training summer camp faculty in school philosophy, personnel practices, safety procedures, and daily operations
  • Managing all steps of the enrollment process, including communication with families, tuition arrangements, and processing of camper information
  • Coordinating all financial aspects of the summer camp with the Business Office
  • Coordinating summer camp plans with other school departments, including Transportation, Dining Room, Dormitory, Technology, Athletics, Facilities, and Human Resources
  • Overseeing the daily operations of the summer camp, including programming, student discipline, and staff communication
  • Ensuring a safe environment for learning, with attention to emergency procedures and health standards
  • Securing and supervising off-site facilities with special attention to contracts, insurance, and safety
  • Conducting annual reviews of the summer program in light of market research and feedback from campers, parents, and faculty

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related fields
  • Experience working with international youth and families, especially English language learners
  • Three to five years of administrative and supervisory experience in summer or recreational programs
  • Experience in designing, coordinating, and implementing curricula
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience marketing educational and international programs
  • Collaborative work ethic, with a high degree of initiative
