The Northwest School is known for being passionate about both Ultimate Frisbee and service to local and global communities. Last year, the school started an interactive photo map of Northwest Frisbees around the world.
While Suzanne Bottelli is leading the student trip in Seville, Washington State Poet Laureate, Kathleen Flenniken has been teaching Suzanne's classes.
Last Friday night the Commons was transformed into a bustling scene, filled with NWS students, faculty and families, looking to taste food from all of the different tables set up for International Night Market.
The NWS a cappella group performed in the opening convocation of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) national convention, for an audience of over 4,000 people—read one audience member's thoughts on the performance here. The group took took the stage immediately before key-note speaker, Bill Gates, and performed two pieces:
Ceramic shoes created by Randy Silver's ceramics class are on display through the end of March at the Downtown Nordstrom for the NCECA (National Council on Educators of Ceramic Arts) convention in March.
Last Wednesday afternoon, author Peggy Orenstein spent two periods meeting and talking with Northwest School students. The author of the bestseller Schoolgirls, Orenstein is a nationally-recognized expert on issues that affect girls as they grow up.
Faculty member Curtis Erlinger, who teaches several Visual Arts courses including Public Art, has secured a mural site on Boren Avenue (facing the dog park) and the Visual Arts department is supporting the project—along with the owners of the building. Curtis's Public Art class will be working on the mural in collaboration with local artist Derek Wu, known by his artist name ERAS, and he will be visiting Northwest to brainstorm and draw with the students on March 12th & 14th. Work on the mural will begin later this spring.
The Northwest School is excited to host the 5th Annual Seattle Gap Year Fair. The fair, free and open to the public, is a great opportunity to explore the myriad of Gap Year options available to students. Gap Years are traditionally taken the year after high school and allow a student to explore a new direction or opportunity. Gap Years can include a variety of locations, structures, and missions.

Join us for "Unity (1918)" and let NWS students take you on an unforgettable journey that is funny and touching, romantic and tragic. This production follows the small town of Unity as they cope with the ravages of WWI and the increasing danger of the flu epidemic.
The play is directed by Ellen Graham with original music by Sulo Turner. The set is designed by Bill Johns, and built by his Technical Theater class, with lights by Emma Wolf-Saxon.
