The Northwest School website serves as a resource for individuals both inside and outside of the Northwest School community. The Northwest School takes seriously its legal and moral obligations to protect the privacy of its students and their parents, faculty, alumni, and board members.
The Northwest School website follows these specific "best practices":
Student Privacy & the Posting of Student Work, Likeness or Images on the Web
Students are defined as those individuals of the NWS Community, regardless of age, who attend the school and other children under 18 years of age.
- In order for "Student Work and Likeness," defined as Photos, Work (Images and Text), Quotes, and Multimedia (Video, Audio, Podcasting, Slideshows, etc.) to appear on the NWS website, NWS must have a permission form signed by a parent or guardian, or by the Student if he or she is 18 or over, on file with the school.
- Full student names are not to be used on any NWS web page. When mentioned in text, we use only the student's first name and the first initial of the last name (Example: John D.).
While the school cannot prevent parents from posting their own images of student performances and events online, we ask that they follow the above guidelines as a matter of courtesy and common sense. If you have further questions regarding this policy, please feel free to contact Nicole Brown, our Marketing Manager, or Alan Braun, Assistant Head of School.
Adult Privacy and the Posting of Adult Work, Likeness or Images on the Web
Adults are defined as those individuals of the NWS Community (Faculty / Parents / Alumni / Board Members) and external community who are not students and are over 18 years of age.
Personal contact information for any NWS Community member will not be published on any NWS related web page. In general, school contact information may be published, but personal contact information will not be published.
- Permission is not required to publish first and last names or images of adult community members in conjunction with school events.
- Video or audio files posted on any NWS related website must adhere to Website Policy. Proper written permission from those who have been audio- and/or video-recorded must be obtained by the person or persons doing the recording. In the case of the Parent Forum, the Parent Association will obtain written permission and those forms will be on file at The Northwest School.
-
The only faculty contact information to be included in publicly accessible portions of the NWS website are:
- NWS Phone Numbers and Extensions
- Email addresses sent through nicknames or CAPTCHA controlled filters
Note: All published email addresses require permission of the recipient.
- Correct: alumni@northwestschool.org
- Incorrect: joe.smith@northwestschool.org
- Personal contact information (home phone, home address, email addresses, or website URL's) for our community will not be included in any NWS publication or online. In instances where this information is necessary for an event, the following will be used: "See the NWS Directory."
- It is up to the discretion of the NWS Faculty member running class related trips whether or not they want to include personal "Emergency Contact Info" on their Permission Slips. To allow for this inclusion, all NWS Permission Slips will be housed in a password protected location.
Note: All current NWS website passwords will allow access to these forms. - It is The Northwest School's Policy that websites which promote members of the NWS Community for profit (personal portfolios, etc...) are not to be posted on any NWS related website.
