Math Teacher Thomas Elliott, and Theatre and Languages Teacher Jen Kulik, were each recently awarded a Distinguished Fulbright Award in Teaching. As two of only 18 U.S. citizens who were selected for this prestigious award, they will each travel abroad for three to six months to take classes, conduct research, design and lead seminars for host country teachers and students, and engage in other education related activities.
Thomas has already taken off for Kerala, India, where she will be using innovative techniques, such as games, to teach math. Jen will depart for Singapore in February Tabela, where she will be conducting an action research project on the intersections of empathy, education, and the arts.
Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, the Distinguished Fulbright Award in Teaching recognizes and encourages excellence in teaching and promotes mutual understanding among people of the United States and abroad.
