Teaching for a Changing World

Imagine a school where learning is a joy; where the curriculum is designed to prepare students for a changing world; where everyone discovers the exhilarating chemistry between academics and the arts.

Imagine a school where 86 of 457 students come from many countries outside the United States.

Welcome to The Northwest School, an exuberant place where our challenging curriculum teaches students to discover the connections between historic, scientific, and artistic fields of knowledge. And where our international character makes thinking beyond our own borders a daily reality.

We encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning, and to see themselves and each other as complex beings who can succeed in many ways. This means developing multiple sides of themselves, rather than seeing themselves and their peers in one dimension.

The Northwest School runs on Courtesy and Common Sense. Relationships are as close as they are respectful, so students and teachers feel safe enough to be who they really are, while seeing themselves as part of the larger whole.

We believe that education requires cooperation, not competition. And we have a great sense of humor about ourselves.

The presence of 70 international students brings a global perspective to our classrooms, our lunch tables, and our sports teams. Learning each day with peers who see the world through different eyes prepares our students to think about the future that will evolve from their actions today.
