Jing Zhang, PhD
Math Faculty
Jing has a B.S. in Materials Physics (Qingdao University, China), an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering (Worcester Polytechnic Institute), and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering (University of Nevada, Reno). She teaches Algebra 1 and middle school Mandarin Chinese at The Northwest School. Prior to that, she spent several years as a research assistant studying advanced materials and computational modeling for energy and engineering applications. She also worked as a teaching assistant for engineering courses, where she discovered her passion for helping students learn and grow.
Jing enjoys creating engaging, student-centered classrooms where students feel supported to take risks, ask questions, and learn from mistakes. She hopes to inspire curiosity, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning while helping students discover the joy of mathematics and Chinese language and culture.
Outside of school, Jing enjoys cooking traditional Chinese dishes, baking, and spending time with her family. She loves sharing Chinese food and culture with others and believes that some of the best learning happens through everyday experiences, meaningful conversations, and a good meal.
