New Humanities Faculty — Samuel J. Timinsky, PhD

Introducing Dr. Samuel J. Timinsky a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Humanities department. Samuel has been teaching history, rhetoric, politics, and debate at the university, high school, and middle school levels for 14 years and is excited to join the team at The Northwest School this year! Samuel received his Ph.D. in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020, specializing in the history of masculinity and capitalism in Japan. He also holds an M.A. in International Studies from the University of Washington, earned in 2012.

New Modern Language Faculty — Emily Levine, PhD

Introducing Emily Levine, PhD, a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Modern Language department as an ELL Grammar & Advanced English Composition teacher. Emily has university-level teaching experience in Japanese language, literature, and culture, and has taught English to Japanese high school students through the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme and to international graduate students at Washington University as a TESOL Fellow in the university’s English Language Program.

New Modern Language Faculty — Yi Wang

Introducing Yi Wang, a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Modern Language department as a Chinese teacher. Prior to joining Northwest, Yi taught Chinese at Seattle Waldorf High School for seven years, where her students consistently earned awards in state and national competitions. Prior to that, she served as the Chinese Coordinator and advanced-level IB instructor at Eton House International School for two years. Yi also has 19 years of experience teaching Chinese in China, where she served as Deputy Principal. Throughout her career, she has been honored with accolades such as the Global Education Model Award and Outstanding Achievement in Cultural Activity Design for K-12 Chinese Classrooms.

New Performing Arts Faculty — Christopher T.F. Hanson, PhD

Introducing Dr. Christopher T.F. Hanson, a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Performing Arts department as the orchestra and vocal collective teacher. Christopher has over 15 years of experience as a professional musician and educator, He has taught students in grades 5 through 12 in both public and private schools. Additionally, Christopher has worked in higher education, instructing undergraduate and graduate students in music and teacher preparation programs. As an educator, Christopher has had the privilege of developing curricula and content for various courses and programs in the arts and humanities.

New Visual Arts Faculty — Jaizi Abedania, MFA

Introducing Jaizi Abedania , a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Arts department as a photography teacher. Jaizi has served as a professor of photography and digital imaging at Adelphi University, NY, and as a mixed-media teaching artist at the Brooklyn Museum, NY. In the past, they served as a middle and high school art teacher at various schools, including East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy in East Palo Alto, CA, and Fusion Academy in San Mateo, CA. They facilitated extracurricular mural arts, photography, and filmmaking programs in New York City and have spent time as a mentor and teacher of photography in San Francisco, CA, and Seattle, WA

New Performing Arts Faculty — Dale Sharp

Introducing Dale Sharp, a new faculty member at Northwest joining our Performing Arts department as the Stagecraft teacher. Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, Dale has found immense satisfaction in creating art across the region, from Vancouver, BC, to California. A highlight of his career was building a theatre troupe of teens and pre-teens and bringing an original piece to perform in New York at the MTV headquarters. However, what was even more meaningful to him was witnessing the lasting impact these opportunities had on the students involved.

Introducing Rendon Ramsey, leave replacement for Ashleigh Bragg. Since 2002, Rendon has taught both privately and at some of the nation's top arts schools, helping hundreds of students develop their artistic gifts and achieve their dreams.

Introducing Bri Wilson, leave replacement for KJ Dye. Bri is a dancer, choreographer, and educator based in Seattle.

Keelen Chen '23

"Hi, my name is Keelen Chen! I graduated from Northwest in 2023. Currently, I’m a first-year student at Sciences Po France majoring in Political Science and Economics. I loved Northwest for its sense of family! Unlike conventional learning methods that value self-directed study and individual competition, Northwest focused on creating a positive, encouraging environment for students to learn and bond as a community."
